I'm tired, really, really tired...grindingly so. Once again a baby has taken over my night time; I should have learnt after the first 2 to not let them sleep all night by my side, Ferberize 'em, drag out the Gina Ford, whatever it takes but no...once again I succumbed to the whimpers, the longing looks, the haze of hormones convincing me that my baby had to be at my side night and day. Well, I have made my bed and now I must lie in it, as I have sowed so shall I reap, made a rod for....blah, blah, blah.
One positive is that now me and sig. other can play the "who's the most tired" game. It's more of a competition really: and the prize? Gaining the right to bear the cross of being the most tired person EVER, in the whole world. He works hard, runs his own business....the day doesn't stop at 6pm it carries on and on and on....I look after the home, get up in the night to feed babs BUT I sense I will soon gain the advantage because I will be returning to work (a deputy head friend offered me a job, it's only a two day week thing but still...) SO I will be "working mother"; therefore I claim the monopoly. Actually, I'm far better suited to the game, he just doesn't put the time in. It's no good just telling me you're tired you have to demonstrate it; don't just walk wearily up the stairs, crawl, claiming a lack of oxygen to muscles (inventing symptoms is one of the rules), make sure it is known that you can barely hold a cup of tea, spend long periods of time staring at nothing, as if the ability to think has deserted (actually this is genuine). Write posts that make no sense and have the gall to publish. So, apologies to anyone who actually reads my blog...I only wanted to make contact, albeit in a rambling...forgot what I was trying to say...{yawn} ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzz

Yes - I know how you feel. I'm tired too. Exhausted. Funny thing is, when people ask me how I am I always say 'fine'. If I ever say 'I'm tired' they look all concerned like it's something new and worrying...as if!!
Yep, I hear you on that one...I have a usual jolly "ticking along" reponse to most people but the first thing I'd have thought about on waking, is what time I can get back to bed. Trouble is, I've always been more productive in the evening/nighttime...it's hard to shift to a different mode of operation but has to be done!
i feel your pain my baby is 4weeks old and i've been up every night with her since she was born. plus my other 3have been ill so been up and down with them at night too. i love the 'whos more tired game' i always win after much debate (sometimes)

I feel for you; it really is the hardest part of having a baby (well for me it is). My number 3 was an ace sleeper until recently and now wakes at 1am, 4am, 5am and 6am...have to get up at 7am to get the other ready for school so sometimes it seems pointless going to bed at all! Going back to work soon (only 2 days and as a teacher get the good holidays) a bit earlier than I wanted to but a friend offered me a job and things being the way they are with the recession etc; anyway half dreading being knackered but as I pointed out to other half work can provide a bit of rest...must sleep will be up in 2 hours, we should start a middle of the night bloggers group!
Blimey this brings back memories. No wait, Miss M still tends to be in bed beside me by 6am most mornings. Yawn.
You definitely win when you become the working mum though. Seriously, he cannot compete. You can do the blank stare while looking at a pile of marking, and balancing a small child on your shoulder, enhanced with baby puke down your back and milk stains on your boobs.
I'd get a prize organized so at least you get something nice for being the winner. :D
Daughter#1 got up at 5am this morning...5am!!!!!!! Even with the loss of an hour she has never risen this early, son#1 wasn't far behind (demanding breakfast...now!!); we have been very naughty and taught d#1 how to use the TV...the baby now operates his own schedule...why oh why??? I think I shall mostly be wearing baby vomit and Wheatabix at work (2 days ain't bad though and it's Y1 and usually Friday afternoon is Golden Time...so 1 and a half days really, sorted!)
I remember that all I could think about with baby 2 was "How long until he is old enough to FERBERIZE?!" and then the second he was, I was brutal.
Then life got much better.
Hope that you find some sleep soon. Otherwise one loses the will to live
I am quickly coming to the conclusion that Ferberizing is the only way forward. Serve me right for being so smug when he was a new born "ohhhh he sleeps for six hour stretches" I gloated "and he's totally breast fed". How foolish I was, to tempt fate so blatantly. Ahhh well I have to get a life now; I've relied on Cbeebies to entertain my children for too long plus I really, really miss blogging (I didn't actually realize how addictive this thing could be).
Hello. Sig Oth Here
wtf is Ferberize and am I doing it?
Yes you are, and yes you have done it before...the crying thing, the one where I sit on the landing and say"I'll just go in" and you say"NO!!!Get out of the way etc" that's what is is to "Ferberize"....VOILA!
Oh sure, we played that game too. Hubby was utterly rubbish with lack of sleep and so would claim victory just because he 'looked' more tired.
Then one weekend I was away and he had to look after the children on his own.
Never ever complained about being more tired than me ever again!
Jo; I am definitely going to make the most of the opportunity to martyr myself when I return to work; I she smile sweetly and sympathetically when he tells me how tired he is...then plonk myself down on my patch of moral high ground writing end of year reports with one hand and whipping up a culinary delight with the other (because in the land of moral high I can actually cook). It'll be fun. Mind you, not sure how I'm going to tackle the leaky boobs at work....lots of expressing I guess...I did this with d#1, I think, bit of a dim and blurry memory now.
Tara, Sig. Other works late most night (runs own business, so very busy) but always seems surprised at the weekend when the baby kicks off round about tea time. "This is normal" I tell him "chill out and ignore it". One of my friends has invited me on a Spa weekend in a few weeks time, not sure whether I should go; partly because I'm still b/feeding and it will be a weekend of expressing etc and partly because Sig. Other is getting together with friends husband for a weekend at their place in the Lake...with 5 kids...and friends husband wants to go sky diving...hmmmm... mind you at least he will legitimately be "THE MOST TIRED PERSON EVER" for once ;)
Oh man! I could have written this post myself! My husband and I regularly have "Who's the most tired" contests. I always win, but only because I fight harder for it. Like you, said, crawling up the stairs etc etc. Funny funny funny post!
I think, when you're breastfeeding too...well, it can be hard work. My best friend couldn't and her baby had a bottle and is now in the best routine, she knows how much milk he takes, the minute he will fall asleep and the rest. I'm not too good at the routine thing; #3 was suppose to adhere to a strict routine but it's all gone a bit wrong...oh well, they sleep through eventually (even if, like son#2, it does take a year!)
